Forget Your Perfect Offering

Forget your perfect offering;
There's a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in.
- Leonard Cohen

Today I'm wondering what would have been if I had listened to the call of contentment sooner. I am wondering what might have happened if I'd made a habit out of speaking kinder words. I'm wondering--what if my writing was really good, what if it was perfect? Me, my world, a perfect shade of cloudless sky? My hands, sharp and soft, brave and gentle? My life the calculated beauty of the honeycomb?

What if I made my own light? What if I'd never had to ask for Yours? Would I be glorious? No, did You not make me imperfect so that the perfection that passes through me can be sourced back to you?

May it ever be, Lord, that all the light in me is the light of Your bright sky guiding me to the honey of your path.
