It's hot again today, and I can feel how different this summer will be. This is the summer before the plunge...
Like in 2005 when I was at the Red Granite quarry, which had been filled with water and deemed a municipal pool. With Ben, and Jeremy, and Nick. The summer was a peeled nectarine, juicing and vulnerable, and if we could just plunge from the heights of red stone into the water, we'd understand the freedom of tasting, seeing. Just graduated from high school, the skin over our eyes is still taut and rose-colored. We are new, and we are beginning newness with this moment of foot from ground into air and down into the knowing coolness.
...and I must change and understand like fruit, like water.
